An Open Clinical Trial on the Effectiveness of Trimebutine malete(Polybutine) in the Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Abstract
To evaluate the effectiveness of 300mg of trimebutine maleate twice a day in irritiable bowel syndrome (IBS) in comparison with that of 200mg of trimebutine maleate three times a day, 50 patients with IBS were randomly assigned to either group
and
administered medication for 4 weeks.
After 4 weeks of medication the effect of each medication was compared between the two groups with respect to subjective symptoms, adverse reactions and overall effectiveness. In the group of patients given 300mg of trimebution maleate twice a
day
(30
patients) the effectiveness rate was 90% and no serious adverse drug reactions were noted. In the group of patients given 200 mg of trimebutine maleate thrice a day (20 patients) the effectiveness rate was 90% and no serious adverse drug
reactions
were
noted either. Comparison of the effectiveness rate between the two group showed no statistical differences. Considering that the effectiveness of the two regimens was not statisticaliy different, trimebutine maleate 300 mg bid regimen is
preferable
in
terms of convinience.
